Last week, I talked about Knowlage@Wharton and
what a profound effect it had on my brain. This
reminded me of another wonderful (I mean that
literally) website, that I frequently rest at,
TED.
What can we- internet marketers- learn from
psychology, sociology, physics, military tactics,
sports plays and politics? Mark Joyner believes
that we con learn to control the minds of
others.
I had recently ordered a
tall stack of marketing books from Better World
Books. Seeing as my stack had a few Mark
Joyner books in it, and I am very curious as
to this man’s success (in a good way!
), I added Joyner’s Mind
Control Marketing online rerelease, as
well.
I’ve been given a marvelous opportunity by
Michael Port, who’s dared to ask me to review his
second book, Beyond Booked Solid and kindly sent me
a manuscript, pre-print (yes this is a first for
me- I’m kinda psyched )
Who’s Michael Port?
Don’t worry, I didn’t
know either. Apparently the reason for that is
because I don’t read The Wall Street Journal. (I
know, I know... Spank me later ) Truth be told, try as I might,
I couldn’t find any bad reviews of Port’s
books or services. You can check him out for
yourself at his site and his
YouTube
channel and just for fun, take a look at
his acting rap
sheet, too. The Short version of it is
that Michael Port is a business teacher
(‘cause the word guru has been tortured to
death and needs some time to heal ), a speaker and author and a
bit of a philosopher. As is evident in his
writing, which is profound, yet applicable.
I’ve been talking a lot about mindsets, lately.
With you, with my friends and with colleagues. One
thing becomes more and more apparent, every day:
You can’t teach it!
This doesn’t mean you give up, all together, on
learning it. On the contrary! We must study it all
the time- over and over again- and strive to
experience it. That’s the reason I keep posting
inspirational and mindset material to The Marketer
Review. The repetition of ideas and the small
differences between different sources, give you a
fuller notion of the mindsets that will lead to
your success.
The Makings of a Good Teacher
Teachers in
the field of internet marketing write many books.
Money aside, the reason for that, is that a good
teacher will notice the questions asked by his/her
students, and advance the lessons accordingly. A
good teacher grows with their students. This is
what Yaro Starak has done with his book,
How to Start an Internet Business. (You need to
subscribe to Entrepreneur's Journey's RSS feed, and
the link to download the book will arrive in the
feed.)
Starak could have written yet another make money
blogging book, but, frankly, I, for one, would feel
cheated, if he would have. Fortunately, he decided
to talk about something else entirely...
In an innocent time, when the word “strange”
had any viable effect on a listener, Earl
Nightingale named his inspirational recording The
Strangest Secret. Sadly, we can’t say we evolved
too much, as the word “secret” still works wonders
on us.
I truly believe that
the most inspiring material I find - I find it in
unsuspected places. Such is the case of Earl
Nighingale’s Strangest Secret, which I was
sent, by a friend from Mixx. The
Secret really isn’t so strange, and to many of
us may be even common knowledge, by now. But
nothing can replace the perfect words of a well
polished idea, and that’s exactly what
Nightingale’s skit is all about. It’s a half
hour piece, so grab a cup of Joe and have a sit
and listen to what the man has got to say.
(Nightingale is mostly targeting men in the
broadcast, but this, of course, relates to
women, too!)
I'm a big fan of Mark Joyner's work. In my
opinion Simpleology 101 was a stroke of genius, on
many levels. But even my favorite things need a
thorough scrutiny, sometimes.
You’ve got to hand it to
Joyner, he invented a teaching system that can be
reused over and over again, on any subject.
Simpleology Blogging teaches in exactly the same
way Simpleology 101 is taught:
Like most second editions the changes made to
the Authority Black Book 2008 aren’t huge, but
they’re very necessary.
Authority Black Book 2007
I read the
Authority Black Book 2007 as a beginner blogger,
about a year ago. It was very overwhelming and very
essential. I used it as a checklist of things that
must be done, in order to forward my online
ventures. A friend sent me the 2008 edition
of Authority Black Book, a couple weeks
ago, and I had realized I have yet to mention
this interesting tool.
The ClueTrain has been on track since 1999, and
what used to be its prophesy is now full on
reality.
I’ve heard of the Cluetrain before, I’ve
even reached the site on numerous, separate
occasions, but I never really stopped to read
it. A week ago a friend recommended it, so I
read it, and boy does that prove the Cluetrain
point!
Gabe & Max and how you can become a better
marketer.
Every once in a while I gotta kick
off my shoes and relax to some entertainment. For a
while, now, I’ve been on a crusade to find
entertainment, geared at the internet marketer.
Lawyers get TV shows, cops get TV shows, doctors,
detectives, journalists and even desperate house
wives. So why don’t internet marketers get TV
shows? Probably because you won’t sit through 25
minutes of some guy, sitting in his pajamas, in the
basement (known as the “Home Office” ) hacking away
at his computer.
Internet Marketing Entertainment exists
All
is not lost, my internet marketing colleagues! As
more and more people are becoming aware of internet
marketing, the college humor and smart-ass parodies
are on their way. (Yes this does mean you should
worry about your methods and the future of internet
marketing, but that’s for after the short video.)
An astute friend from StumbleUpon, noticed I’m into
internet marketing and sent me this little piece of
internet marketing parody. These guys are low-tech,
but excruciatingly on the mark. Hope you don’t
scare easily
A year ago, I opted-in to Mark Joyner’s
Simpleoligy system. I never used it, until
today.
What took me so long?
When I first opted-in
to Mark Joyner’s Simpleoligy (new on the Hotlist),
I was still an internet marketing newbie.
Subscribing to every free newsletter, I can get my
grubby little hands on (which I still do
) and reading every word, like
it was god-sent (which I don’t anymore). I was
also a tech newbie. Didn’t know much about the
net and all it’s magical applications.
Weighing under all these newsletters, I
randomly stumbled onto the Simpleoligy 101
page, through my email routine. It didn’t
look simple at all. I was overwhelmed and
annoyed. So off I went, never to return to my
own, personal Simpleoligy cockpit, again.
How do you grow your small blog? The Marketer
Review presents: Search for Blogging- a case
study.
What do you want out of your blog? A solid
readership, a recursive income. Mert Erkal, from
Turkey, has managed to do this. All he had to do
was play by the rules that the market has
established in the last decade. Search for
Blogging is not yet big, but it’s growing
rapidly and already has over 1000 readers per
day.
Inspired by Blog Action Day- A lesson in viral
marketing.
A few weeks back, while
researching viral marketing for my
Hugging for Attention post, I stumbled
upon Blog Action
Day* (Check out the
sidebar) This idea struck me as so original,
questions immediately popped into my head:
What would happen if every blog published on
the same topic, on the same day?
