The Midwest Internet Marketing Super Conference II- Do You Have an Extra $1495.50 Laying Around?

The mouthful referred to as “The Midwest Internet Marketing Super Conference II” is well packaged and well executed. Should Joe go?

Midwest Super Conference
Last week I received a comment from a man, who simply identified himself as “Joe”*:

Tali, I agree with you 100%. I just entered the incredible world of internet marketing myself and respect your opinion and ideas. I strongly believe in training, however, and believe that sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes you get ripped off. I recently heard about the upcoming Midwest Super Conference for Internet Marketing. The line-up of guest speakers appears to be very accomplished. Can you or your readers check it out and let me know if I should invest in this training as a beginner to internet marketing. Here is the link.
Thanks, Joe.

Feeling obligated to you and Joe, my readers, I decided to check it out.

Who’s in charge?

Jeff Mills is running this operation. Who is he? Frankly, I have no clue. A Google search only brings up an influential African American Techno DJ and producer from Detroit, or pages to the conference. So what can you do to determine whether this conference is worth investing in or, maybe it’s just a load of pitch? That’s where I come in. Winking

Update - 1.3.08
A new tool has come to my attention, for Firefox users. It's the Who is this Person? Add-on. Simple installment, which directs you to the person's profiles on various sites, such as Wink, LinkedIn, Wikipedia, Facebook, Google News, Technorati, Yahoo Person Search, Spock, WikiYou, ZoomInfo, IMDB, MySpace and more. All you have to do is highlight the name and right click. Your regular right-click menu will appear with the addition of of the words "Who is this person?". When you hover upon that, your choice of sites menu will appear. Click the site of your choice and it will open in another tab. Simple, useful, no apparent bugs 5 stars!

The package

As any woman would tell you, take a look at the package, first Winking. Why do the looks of a site matter? Apart from my already famously finical personal tastes, I have to bring up the importance of good design. Good design means someone shelled out a wad of cash just to make their site attractive to you. That effort is exactly what you’re looking for, in terms of trust. If someone just slaps a site together it’s very visible. And I’d put down a good wad of cash, on the table, myself, that says that person is a newbie. Mills, however, is not a newbie. He’s got a symbol, a comparatively clean design, a consistent font and a jingle to make even my grandma cringe.

The speakers

Few! That’s a long list. Impressive, isn’t it?

As a person thinking of paying for any services, always ask yourself about quantity and quality. Don’t just think that a long list makes for a quality list. Who are these people?

Well, most of the list, I’ve never heard of, have you? Don’t fret, this is a big industry and you could never know everyone. If you know no one on the list, don’t waste your time with it. If you know one person, at least, than you should research the rest of the people. How do you do that? You guessed it- Google’em! (The resumes given in the sales letter are not proof of anything- it’s your money on the line!)

Don’t be scared of my use of the word research. Google has made it ever so easy to do some light-headed, preliminary investigations, and that is all I’m getting at, here. Just try to find the person’s name, see how high they rank, that should be enough to convince you, these people, at the least, know their SEO.

John Childers, Joel Comm, JJ Childers and Ray Edwards are all formidable names and are all easily found on Google’s top rankings. Other top Google rankers are Matt Bacak, Matthew Glanfield, Jason Henderson, Sherry Watson, Larry Benet, Jeff Adams, Pat Lovell and Steve Renner. That’s most of the list, what about Debra Thompson Roedl, Rob Smith and Daniel Unsworth?

Rob Smith seems to have a big SEO problem, have you guessed it, already?
That’s right- his name. Having a common name can produce some problems in this business.

Debra Thomson Roedl is an interesting case. She is all over Google, but doesn’t seem to have a site of her own (drop me an e-mail if you know better). People are writing about this woman.

Daniel Unsworth- I have failed to find this man, if anybody knows something about him, please send me the link.

The content

You wouldn’t enroll in a university without, at least, looking at their courses list, right? Well, this is practically the same thing. Is the content of this seminar right for you?

The basics are there: List building, auto-responders, viral marketing, affiliate business, traffic, SEO, joint-ventures and all the rest.

The Midwest Internet Marketing Super Conference II offers some unique (if not down-right peculiar) content. I’m talking about tax tips with JJ Childers, or fitness with Jason Henderson and Rob Smith, real-estate through internet with Jeff Adams, not to mention the very discomforting get-a-grant with Sherry Watson. These are not common themes in internet marketing seminars. However, if you feel you could benefit from them, go ahead. This is not basic stuff that is a must-know.

The free content

My favorite topic, of course. Laugh You can always judge a product by the free content that comes along with it. In this case, you really get hours-worth, which to me is a sign of good faith from Jeff Mills. I can even forgive him, that I had to install something on my computer, to get access to the information. However, be warned: Inside all this free audio, Mills interlaces his long sales letter. If you listen carefully (which I expect all my astute students to do Winking ), you will here your features, benefits, call to action and creation of urgency. Also I warn that (as usual) this material is not edited, so it’s actually full of useless moments.

4 stars for it’s abundance. When you here these people talk about their business, it’s not just the tips per-say, it’s about their attitude and professional states of mind as well.

Should Joe go?

Well, Joe, it really all comes down to the title of this review: Do You Have an Extra $1495.50 Laying Around? (That’s right, it’s 1500 bucks!) As I always say, all the information is out there and it is free. The probability is that even “The Midwest Internet Marketing Super Conference II”’s contents will be made available, for free, at some point. I’m not saying that conferences (or any other product, for that matter) are not worth the cash you spend. I’m just saying that you should take a while to learn about internet marketing. Get to know some basic jargon, get some experience by launching something, and then- a conference would be excellent to make some connections.

The most important thing, really, is to remember that if you do decide to go, you must make it worth your while:
  • Be an A student and write everything down.
  • Connect with people. Make a goal number of how many people’s contact information, you’ll get, beforehand. (But remember, human contact is about quality, not quantity. Winking)
  • Implement. If you don’t come back home and feverishly start implementing what you just learned, it has all been a waste of time and money.

The Midwest Internet Marketing Super Conference 2 seems like a promising event. (I can tell by the free content Laugh ) If you have the money and a little bit of experience- go for it. If you’re a complete newbie- Stay Away!
