Earl Nightingale’s
Strangest Secret
In an innocent time, when the word “strange”
had any viable effect on a listener, Earl
Nightingale named his inspirational recording The
Strangest Secret. Sadly, we can’t say we evolved
too much, as the word “secret” still works wonders
on us.
I truly believe that
the most inspiring material I find - I find it in
unsuspected places. Such is the case of Earl
Nighingale’s Strangest Secret, which I was
sent, by a friend from Mixx. The
Secret really isn’t so strange, and to many of
us may be even common knowledge, by now. But
nothing can replace the perfect words of a well
polished idea, and that’s exactly what
Nightingale’s skit is all about. It’s a half
hour piece, so grab a cup of Joe and have a sit
and listen to what the man has got to say.
(Nightingale is mostly targeting men in the
broadcast, but this, of course, relates to
women, too!)
The Strangest Secret Vs. The
Secret
The name, The Strangest Secret, reminded me of the
despicably cultish
The Secret.
These two skits are actually talking about the
same things and are even using the same
methods. It’s just that what used to work in
1965, doesn’t really work now. Frankly, I
prefer the straight forward, no bullshit
manner of Nightingale’s (even if I’m not
particularly fond of his authoritative voice
:P ). What mainly bothers me about The Secret
is their attempt to mystify what Nightingale
attempts to simplify.
The Redundancy of Lifehacks
If you’ve
already checked out
Mark Joyner’s Simpleology, for example, you’ve
probably already noticed similarities to
Nightingale’s broadcast. In all the example cases,
the biggest secret to success, is knowing what you
want and going after it. In the end, no matter what
form it’s presented in it’s all about persistence.
I gained something from Nightingale, calling
persistence “faith”. This one change of phrase
embodies the importants of many sources of
inspiration. If you only have one mantra, you may
loose your way, following it religiously. Yet, when
you accumulate many different points of view, they
balance each other.

Every once in a while I mention
mindset, but seldom do I focus on it. The
Strangest Secret is an amazing piece of
positive business (and life) mindset.
